Starting Our Cross-country Trip

We finished packing the car early yesterday morning and began our trip west. Going the length of New York seemed to take forever, but after several hours we hit our first new state of the trip. Pennsylvania forms a little wedge between New York and Ohio so it didn't take too long to cut across it.
Our Home Base for the Next Month

Ohio was another long stretch, but we broke it up with a stop in Cleveland and let the kids run around a park on the southern shore of Lake Erie. Before long, we were back in the car and making our way to Indiana. The kids are pros in the car and switched between their iPads and coloring books all day long.
The Only Great Lake of the Trip

We stopped and had a picnic dinner and then drove for another hour before getting off the highway and sneaking across the border into Michigan where we had our first hotel reservation. The kids are always excited to play in a new hotel so we let them burn off some energy before they all crashed in their shared bed for the night. Twelve hours of traveling and day one down!
